Seeking 3 women and 3 men. Strong comic timing essential for all roles. Ages are flexible and represent stage age only.
- ·MRS. SHIRLEY PECK (female, playing age 55–75) — A warm widow with sharp instincts and a knack for observing what others miss. Funny, lovable, and far more perceptive than she appears. The heart of the show.
- ·DETECTIVE PAUL PECK (male, playing age 25–40) — Shirley's son and a junior detective eager to prove himself. Intelligent and earnest, sometimes overshadowed by his mother.
- ·CLARICE CLAYTHORNE (female, playing age 25–40) — The Colonel's eldest daughter. Glamorous, sophisticated, and ambitious with a cool exterior and sharp wit.
- ·DOTTY CLAYTHORNE (female, playing age 25–40) — The Colonel's younger daughter. A devoted mystery fan, bookish but highly intelligent with a surprising strength.
- ·JASPER JAMISON (male, playing age 25–40) — Clarice's handsome fiancé. Charming and not always the brightest. A comedic role with great timing and plenty of heart.
- ·ARTHUR WHITTINGTON (male, playing age 45–70) — A famous and pompous mystery novelist. Larger-than-life and self-important. His revelations set the mystery in motion.
