A rural cemetery and isolated farmhouse in Western Pennsylvania. Dusk through early hours of the following morning.

• ·BARBARA — Young woman, mid-20s. Starts visiting her father's grave; becomes increasingly catatonic as the night progresses.
• ·JOHN — Barbara's brother, mid-20s. Teases Barbara in the cemetery before the attack.
• ·BEN — A truck driver. Resourceful, take-charge, courageous. The story's primary protagonist.
• ·HARRY COOPER — Older man, stubborn and fearful. Convinced the cellar is the only safe place. Clashes with Ben.
• ·HELEN COOPER — Harry's wife. Practical and compassionate. Tries to keep the peace.
• ·KAREN COOPER — Harry and Helen's daughter. A young girl, bitten and infected, who dies and reanimates. Actor must be 18+.
• ·TOM — Young local man in coveralls. Good-natured, perishes trying to escape with Ben.
• ·JUDY — Tom's girlfriend. Warm and loving. Follows Tom outside despite the danger.
• ·SHERIFF McCLELLAND — County law enforcement, seen via TV broadcast and at the play's conclusion.
• ·RADIO ANNOUNCER — Voice only. Delivers emergency civil defense broadcasts.
• ·TV COMMENTATOR — Voice/video only. Delivers television news broadcast.
• ·REPORTER — Voice/video only. Interviews Sheriff McClelland.
• ·THE DEAD — Non-speaking ensemble. Reanimated corpses attacking the farmhouse throughout the play.
